A Living Will is a legal document, that an individual makes for his/her medical treatment in the event of inability speak for yourself due to illness or incapacity.

Health Care Proxy vs. Living Will: Both allow advance decisions regarding health care, however, Health Care Proxy is a legal document that allow an individual to appoint a representative to make health care decisions in the event that the individual is incapable of executing such decisions. After the document is drafted, the individual makes health care decisions as long as he/she is still capable to do so. The representative-proxy is empowered when a qualified doctor determines that the person, who made a legal document is incapable to make decisions regarding health care. A representative - proxy will not be legally or financially be responsible for decisions made on the behalf of the individual as long as they take into account the  individual's desires.
